Amid the ongoing challenges posed by heavy rains in various parts of Northern Kenya, Garissa Women Representative Hon. Amina Udgon Siyat has taken a proactive step by distributing water storage tanks to several schools within Garissa County. The move aims to facilitate the harvesting of rainwater in preparation for the anticipated El Niño rains, providing a sustainable water supply for the schools and their communities.

The timing of this initiative couldn't be more critical, given the current weather conditions in the region. Several areas have been grappling with persistent heavy downpours, leading to flooding and rendering some regions impassable or inaccessible. The adverse effects of the flooding have been felt across various sectors, including education, where the distribution of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) papers has faced significant challenges.

Hon. Amina Udgon Siyat emphasized the importance of preparing for the rainy season and mitigating its potential impacts on the community. "Ensuring that our schools have adequate water storage facilities is essential, especially during this period of heavy rainfall. We must be proactive in our efforts to harness the natural resources available to us, ensuring the sustainable development and resilience of our communities," she stated.

The water storage tanks provided by the Women Representative are expected to bolster the water conservation efforts in the region and alleviate potential water shortages during the upcoming season.
